Sri Lanka's Tourism Sector Needs More Flights, Not More Rooms, Says The Theme Collection Founder

Chandrasena Wickramasinghe, founder and chairman of The Theme Collection hotel brand, asserts that Sri Lanka currently possesses sufficient hotel rooms, both formal and informal, to accommodate 3 million annual tourists. He emphasizes that the primary focus should be on increasing the number of flights bringing tourists to the country, rather than building more hotels. Wickramasinghe also highlighted the disparity in spending between European backpackers and Indian tourists, noting that Europeans stay longer and spend significantly more.
