Sri Lanka Seeks Private Sector Involvement and Education Reform to Address Higher Education Gap

Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Chathuranga Abeywickrama, highlighted that only about 15% of students who pass the Advanced Level examination gain access to higher education in Sri Lanka, posing a significant challenge for the nation. He emphasized the need for private sector participation in higher education, ensuring affordability for the majority of the population who cannot afford more than Rs. 25,000 per month. The government plans to increase financial facilities for higher education to enable more students to access these opportunities, while also addressing the gap between traditional education and industry skill requirements.
